Club Mom-Me Spring Family Fest: Saturday, June 7, 2014 at the Hyatt Regency Resort & Spa Huntington Beach Club MomMe is a social, educational and wellness community for moms and moms-to-be. They provide a place for women to meet each other, make friends, learn about pregnancy and motherhood, and share unique experiences together. All attendees at each event receive a gift bag and a chance to win great giveaways like strollers, car seats, gear and more!
SPB is very excited to announce that we will be at the Club MomMe OC Spring Fest event. In case you cannot attend in person, you can follow us on Twitter for live-tweets from the event, see views from the inside the event on Instagram, and we will be sharing presenter notes in future blog posts. Here is our virtual interview with Aubrye Foote, Vice President of Club MomMe Orange County, with your inside scoop on the event coming up this Saturday, June 7, 2014. SPB: What's new at the Spring Family Fest? AF: This year we've added our Daddy Lounge with fun activities, a Style Lounge where you can see and shop for different clothing, bags, etc. and added some interactive areas for the kids. Spring Fest truly is an event where you can learn about parenthood, explore products & gear, sample goodies during the event and in the *huge* gift bags you'll take home, and connect with not only experts but other families as well. SPB: Tell me more about the inspiration for the Daddy Lounge. It sounds amazing - are MomMe's and Babies welcome, too? AF: We wanted our Family Fests to be something every member of the family could enjoy and what better way for Dad to have a good time then to set him up with a fantastic microbrew (Beach City Brewery) and a taco bar! Of course MomMes and Babies are welcome to enjoy the Daddy Lounge. Besides, we're having Micro Kickboard races and diaper changing races that MomMes will just LOVE to watch and a craft where littles can decorate a tumbler for Daddy for Father's Day from Daddy & Company. SPB: What can a family expect to find, see and learn about? AF: At Spring Fest, families can listen to various speakers and panels such as Dr. Harvey Karp, Natural Parenting Panel, Entrepreneurship for Parents Panel, Healthy Child Healthy World's Understanding Labels workshop, Daddy Panel, and the Hot Baby & Toddler Products session. They'll be able to see and shop at exhibitors ranging from baby/toddler products & gear, clothing, skincare, food and more. We have an Activity Zone with lots of amazing activities for the little ones, a Pamper Lounge where you can enjoy a manicure, a hand massage and juice bar, a Daddy Lounge by Daddy & Company with a microbrew and races with prizes, a Style Lounge featuring gorgeous clothing & bags and last but not least the Lansinoh Lactation Lounge where MomMes can go to nurse or break away to feed & change their babies. SPB: How can they get the most out of the event? Are there other breakout sessions besides the main speakers? AF: There's the main speakers/panels and as a part of each session parents get the opportunity to ask whatever questions they have! I encourage them to do so because these speakers are fabulous! In addition to those sessions, I would recommend that families take advantage of having the ability to see and test new products on the market, learn about what's available to them, visit with the local resources to make parenthood easier and even do some shopping to take these great products home. Not only that, but MomMes ... take some time in the Pamper Lounge and get a manicure or hand massage while Daddy and the little one are off kicking a soccer ball. SPB: Do you have any survival tips to share for families attending with toddlers and/or more mobile children? AF: The great part about Spring Fest is that we have 4 different craft areas, musicians that are performing for the kids, Super Soccer Stars soccer area, a face painter, balloon artist and Urban Sitters will be there to keep an eye on the little ones should MomMe and Daddy need some help. We wanted parents to be able to enjoy the event, but also have the kids enjoy it as well. That's why we set up so many activities in our Activity Zone to keep those "active" ones happy. They may not even want to leave!! SPB: What are the ticketing levels? Which do you feel is the best value? AF: The levels that are still available are:
Each ticket level receives an amazing amount of "swag" that they get to take home. The VIP level ticket has a gift bag worth over $500 and the Celeb ticket has almost $1,000 worth of items. With that, I'd have to say the Celeb ticket is the best value, but you can't go wrong with any of them! SPB: Long term, what is your vision for the Family Fest events? AF: Our biggest passion in what we do is being able to bring resources to parents that they may not have access to on their own. At Family Fest we are able to bring all of that together in one location. Currently we have our Spring Fest in Orange County and Fall Fest is Los Angeles, but our long term vision for our Family Fests is to be able to expand them into other areas in the US so that we can provide these fantastic speakers and brands to an even greater number of families. Thank you, Aubrye, for giving our readers the inside scoop on the event! To learn more about the speakers and panels, please visit the event website HERE http://clubmommeevents.com/. Ticket Giveaway Contest: If you would like to win the Family Ticket which includes 2 Adults and one gift bag with a ton of product & goodies, please leave a comment below and tell me which is your *must see* session. I will choose a winner on Wednesday, June 4, 2014 at noon. Event Sessions: Dr. Harvey Karp Author of “The Happiest Baby on the Block" & "The Happiest Toddler on the Block” Want a career and balance parenthood? Looking to be a “mompreneur”? With Jill Ettinger & Alexandra Spunt Healthy Child Healthy World is hosting its second annual Educational Workshop at Spring Fest, “Understanding Labels,” to help the public navigate this increasingly ambiguous landscape. The event will welcome top experts and personalities in the consumer products and environmental health space to address label confusion and coach attendees on how to effectively read labels, what “red flags” to watch for, ingredients to question, and how to be a smarter, more conscious shopper. Want information and tips on Natural Parenting? consciously. While families may define it differently, there are several principles that are widely agreed to be part of this lifestyle. A Letter To You, The New Mother
Posted on April 1, 2014 at 9:19 AM |
![]() |
April 2014: What You Wish You Knew Remember when you got your first positive pregnancy test? What do you wish that woman knew? Write a letter of love and encouragement to that awesome mama just starting her journey. Dear New Mama: Yes, you. I skipped
over the “mother-to-be”. You are already
growing life, and you are already aware of that life and protective of that
life…as I see it, there is no “to-be” in mothering. It is a state of being since you got your
BFP. Your mother’s instinct is no joke:
trust it always, even in the face of a “lack of evidence” or just “having a
feeling”. No mother has ever regretted
doing the best for her child from a place of love and concern…the only regret
is not listening to that voice. Your
mothering instinct will not fail you in pregnancy or parenting. At times, pregnancy may feel equally miraculous and
uncomfortable. First trimester: the
unquenchable excitement of being pregnant (it happened!!)…and nausea. Second trimester: interesting sounds and
smells, and maternity clothing as your waistline grows. Third trimester: the disappearance of your
feet beneath your belly, maybe nausea (again!), and the OMGosh moment: this
baby has to come out of me – through *there*!
Through it all, the miracle and awe of growing another human
being is constant. There are two hearts
beating, two minds working, two souls living in one body. The first time you feel your Sweet Pea stir
inside of you…their hiccups, the reaction to voices and touch…and those
sensations continue. I believe they
exist as a reminder that the sacred and divine is happening right now. You want to do the best for your baby. You want to have a perfect pregnancy that
leads into your perfect birth story.
While those are worthy ideals, you can only control finite amounts of
conception through the Birth-Day, and at some point you must surrender the rest
of it to the universe. I encourage you to learn as much as you can about birth,
breastfeeding and parenting!
You are never alone on this journey. Birth and parenting have happened for
eons. There is so much wisdom available
to you, and so many people to walk and learn with as a new parent. Read, connect, be willing to say hello to the
person sitting next to you in your childbirth or breastfeeding group. Once your Sweet Pea is earthside, get out and
about. Say hello at the breastfeeding or
postpartum support group, story time or playgroup. A simple hello can lead to a beautiful
friendship for you and your Sweet Pea. Since this is a birth blog, here are some more details about
preparing for the Birth-Day…
Thank you for taking the time to read this letter. You are already an amazing parent – you have
chosen to carry this life, and by doing that, you have undertaken the essence
of mothering: living outside of yourself and considering the needs of
another. Best wishes to you as you
continue to grow in love. Blessings, Krystyna The material included on this site is for informational purposes only. It is not intended nor implied to be a substitute for professional medical advice. Club MomMe Family Fall Fest

The Founding MomMe, Rachel Pitzel, was kind enough to share more info about the Club MomMe Family Fall Fest with us. Be sure to visit their event website HERE (http://clubmommefamilyfest.com/) for ticketing information - it's a be-there event if you are in the Los Angeles area, or if you can get there on November 3, 2013. Below is our "virtual" interview with Rachel. You can also scroll down to see the amazing swag in the VIP gift bags. Lastly, we have also included links to the different panels you can attend - click on those links to see the amazing line-up of speakers the MomMe Team has invited to spend the afternoon with you. What is the Family Fall Fest? Fall Fest is Sunday, November 3rd in Los Angeles, located in the beautiful scenic area by the beach known as Pacific Palisades. Growing up as a little girl in LA, this is always where I aspired to live. And now I am hosting an event here! What can a family expect to find, see and learn about? The experiences will be different depending on whether the family is expecting or already parents. Expectant parents can expect to enter a new parent haven, where all of their product and gear questions will be answered, their anxieties and fears assuaged, and best yet, they will have fun during the process. They will make other expectant parent friends and learn from the parents they meet who have gone through the same thing they once did. They will learn all about pregnancy, delivery, and most importantly, how to take care of a newborn baby. Daddies, the often ignored new parent, have a whole panel dedicated just to them. They will receive unguarded advice from a dad of seven, a hilarious dad blogger, the mom of four who is Club MomMe's official daddy boot camp and baby care basics expert and more. Parents can also learn about sleep habits for new babies (and parents) and the latest in car innovation to protect their unborn child from Honda, the latest car seat safety guidelines, ways to easily store and save children's art and book treatments for a busy expectant parent. They can also learn how to shed the dreaded baby weight healthfully by Paleta Pregnancy. Between sessions, parents will be pampered in the pamper lounge, with massages by Berlin Wellness and Tikkun Spa, facials and treatments by Berlin Wellness, hair curling and braiding by Brambila Salon, juice cleanses and mini-photo shoots. And of course, they’ll see the latest, coolest, most innovative and must-have products for their baby now, and into 2014! How can they get the most out of the event? We will provide each attendee an event overview and map when they check in. This way they can plan the panels they want to attend, set aside time for the Lansinoh lactation lounge if they are nursing, visit the vendors on the lawn, enjoy the activities on the lawn if they have toddlers or older kids and more! Do they need to sign up for classes? How do they do that? Attendees just purchase one ticket which gives them access to all event panels, the pamper lounge, the passed food and hors d’oeuvres, cappuccino bar, and best of baby and best of toddler panels where all products featured are given away, giveaways galore, incredible gift bags, and of course, social time to make new mom and dad friends. What are the ticketing levels? Which do you feel is the best value? We have three ticket levels. Originally they included different panels, but at Club MomMe, our big emphasis is on parent education. So we want all attendees to be able to attend all panels that they are interested in. The major differences are gift bags and benefits. Regular gift bags are really loaded. But VIP gift bags come with a free stroller or car seat cleaning (and what parent could not use that?), a complimentary photo session valued at $250, and a choice between a Joovy Toy Room ($40 value) or a Joovy Footcot ($60 value) plus many other full size items like a comotomo bottle. Celeb tickets come packed with full sized products. The toddler celeb tickets get a Joovy Bicycoo or Tricycoo. Our waiting list is longer than the amount of tickets we had for sale! The expectant parent tickets come with a lillebaby carrier ($125 value), a bumble collection diaper bag ($90 value) and a Munchkin swaddle set ($40 value). PLUS, all celeb tickets get to attend the media morning, walk the red carpet, and relax at an exclusive blogger and media breakfast in an intimate setting on the patio. VIP SWAG BAGS INCLUDE: We wish Rachel and her team (big shout out to Jenny!) a great event. It is sure to be a day to meet, greet, and learn a whole lot about taking care of your growing family! Here are the "Panel" links from the event website (http://clubmommefamilyfest.com/). Click on them to see the "Who's Who" of expert and celebrity speakers that Rachel and her team have lined up to teach and inspire you on Sunday, November 3, 2013. Mommy Con: Jessica from The Leaky [email protected]@b

![]() |
Have I told you how amazing MommyConLA was? I know I did:) Second on the stage on Sunday, October 6 for MommyCon and Babywearing World Record was Jessica Martin-Weber of The Leaky [email protected]@b. Her 1:00 pm appearance was sponsored by Moby®. Since she saw so many mamas breastfeeding, and doing so confidently in public, she
decided to give us a speech about parenting. Here are my notes from her talk: She is the proud mama of six daughters.
While she is their mother, they do not define her. She is inspired by them, however, however her
motivation is to be herself and make the world a better place for her daughters
as they grow. Re: Parenting Fake it until you make it Your baby is your best teacher I believe in you You are the right mom for this baby She talks about babies, boobs, bellies and bottles on her blog because they are
important for the relationship a mama has with herself and with the lessons
children are going to learn about those things. You don’t have to be perfect Be you You are the right parent for your child Example: first time wearing the Moby® wrap – first time it was too tight, then
it was too loose. She had to learn the
right fit and she didn’t give up. The first time she decided to breastfeed for longer than 18 months – she
freaked out a little. It caused her to
question herself – her child – society. When she decided to babywear “halfway into this” (talking about the parenting
journey - I think she was talking about changes she wanted to make between baby3 and baby4) – she was afraid to drop the baby – afraid to screw up – what if she
made the wrong choice in this “new” style of parenting? She had a Skype session with a friend/coach/mentor and as they talked, it
surfaced that ultimately, she was afraid to screw up. Her friend said (loose paraphrasing here
because I am going off shorthand notes), “You are!” Not at all what she anticipated when she was expecting him to reassure her
that she was doing fine. He continued with,
“That’s okay – we all screw up.
What is important is that you are giving yourself and giving them enough
space. You are creating enough space and
love to work through it and be okay.” She felt like all 6 daughters and their hopes – future – possibility rested on
her.
In the Leaky [email protected]@b community, she knows she is not alone. She realized that we are all in a state of
imperfection, still learning, changing, growing, and the best thing about the
community is the opportunity to learn, adjust, reconsider and reevaluate our
choices. Jessica shared an anecdote about raising strong and confident children:
She was having a disagreement with Daughter2 and they were working it out using
respectful language. In the background,
she can see/hear/feel Daughter1 sighing. After she and Daughter2 come to a resolution and move on, Daughter1 is
still “in” the space. She asks her what
is going on and gets, “Nothing”. A few
more interchanges and Daughter1 says, “You really want to know?!”. Mom says, “Yes!” Daughter1 answers, “I would be a better
mother than you!” This took her by surprise and sent her mentally in many different directions. As she processed and found an answer, she simply said, “I bet you will.” So while her first reaction was to be hurt, it was also a sign that she had made the right choices as a parent – here she had an empowered, strong, confident daughter, who is very likely going to be a better mother than the one who raised her. Back to boobs – bellies – babies – bottles We wrestle with body image – we can’t tell our children how to draw conclusions about their body image. You have to have the confidence that you are doing the right thing for them and they will draw healthy conclusions. My body Designed to feed a baby That’s what mammals do You are right You deserve to have confidence in your style of parenting, even if you decide to change styles half-way through like she did. You can be sure that you are changing together with your child – one big cycle of changing – learning – growing together. Jessica Martin-Weber was as amazing in person as she is on her blog. Puma asked me, "Did you get to meet her?", to which I happily said , "Yes!" And then she says, "Did you freak out and ask her for her autograph?!" and I was glad to be able to tell her, "No, I just said hi and we talked a little bit about dance." We are definitely going to keep being "Leaky" fans around here - can't wait for an opportunity to see her here with some of you in Phoenix if Mommy Con comes back next year!! Want to read my notes from the other speakers?? HERE are my notes from Dr. Robert Sears - He talked about vaccinations during pregnancy, postpartum, and for infants. HERE are the notes from January Harshe of Birth Without Fear
- Her talk was about the choices we make around birth. HERE are the notes from Abby Theuring of The Badass
Breastfeeder - Her talk was about empowering breastfeeding as a society. Can't get enough Mommy Con LA? HERE is a link to our tour of the convention floor. Sweet Pea Births is so excited to announce that we are sponsoring The Nursing Lounge at the upcoming Healthy Happy Baby Expo! Organizer Kim Swayman, owner of Healthy Baby, Happy Earth in Glendale, sat down with us for a minute. She tells us more about this exciting, one-day event coming up on Saturday, September 21, 2013 from 10 am to 5 pm at the Westgate Renaissance Hotel.
What is the Healthy Happy
Baby Expo? It is a one-day event that brings together area professionals to assist soon-to-be or new parents in discovering resources and information on a variety of topics in caring for their families. What can a family expect to find? More than 20 educational sessions, a ton of exhibitors, and a variety of interactive experiences ranging from babywearing, a musical experience, a family photo booth and much more! How can they get the most out of the event? Plan to spend the day - take a break for lunch, and come back with all of your questions that you thought of while you were dining. Be sure to bring a notepad to jot down notes from the classes. Most importantly enjoy the beauty of building a strong foundation for your family. Do attendees need to sign up for classes? How do they do that? Pre-registration for classes is suggested, as seating is limited. Pre-registration is available on the Expo website at: There seem to be expos everywhere now - how can you make yours available for
free? One of the things we are
proudest of - is offering great information and resources to EVERYONE. This is
only possible due to the unbelievable support of our sponsors who generously
contribute not only the funds needed to hold this event at such a quality
location, but also give of their time to teach classes and have an exhibit as
well. Many of the speakers are internationally recognized in their fields and
all are credentialed in their areas of expertise to be certain that the
information families receive is the most accurate that we can find. All of them
have waived their normal class fees for this special event. Is there anything else our readers need to know? Attendees can register for $1000's of free prizes throughout the day donated from event sponsors. Thank you, Kim, for giving is the 411 on your event coming up next weekend. Sweet Pea Births is so excited to be one of the event sponsors and presenters. Best wishes for on outstanding Healthy Happy Baby Expo! Where you can find us at the event:

This is one of the images from our breastfeeding photo shoot that didn't make it into our highlights for Breastfeeding Awareness Month. I couldn't bear not to share it since it so beautifully captures the look of pure joy, the infinite love, the connection that flows from a mother to her child. The quote is from a poem I wrote to our daughters, in celebration of the birth of a daughter to a friend of mine...it's so hard to believe that our homebirth baby is going to be 2 years old in less than a month!! What word comes to mind when you think of the connection you have with your children? Please leave is a comment - it will be moderated and posted. |

Prep for Parenting

Today’s SPF post talks more about the Attachment Parenting Support Group Meeting that I attended yesterday. However, I was reminded of something yesterday, and I thought it was worth mentioning some thoughts over here for our Birth-Day focused readers. The first tenet of the Attachment Parenting lifestyle is “Prepare for Pregnancy, Childbirth and Parenting”. If you are here, you are already researching your options and learning about pregnancy and childbirth. However, as we state in our About Us page, all these classes center on the Birth-Day experience. In the grand scheme of things, childbirth classes offer a lot of information about the First Day of the rest of your lives together as a family. That we know of, there is no class, manual or book that can possibly cover all the other things you need to know for the rest of the journey as parents and as a family. While you may not want to think too much about life beyond that day right now, I want to offer a few questions that might be starting point for discussion while you are pregnant. It may be helpful to know the areas that you and your partner agree on, and which topics you will want to explore further so you can come to a consensus. Tears and regret about the way a parenting moment happened can be minimized if you can have a non-emotional conversation and clarify both of your beliefs before you start down the path of your parenting journey.
These are a lot of questions…and I am guessing that you will not get through all of these in one session with your partner. Maybe you can print out this list and take turns picking a topic to discuss after dinner. I would love to hear how it goes: which questions were the most helpful to your discussion, and which questions you added to your list. Bruss and I can always use a good talk as we continue to grow as parents! When you are ready to do more reading about parenting, two books that I found very helpful were the 5 Love Languages by Gary Chapman, and Parenting With Love and Logic by Foster Cline, MD and Jim Fay. What are your concerns as you think about life beyond the Birth-Day? Please leave us a comment - it will be moderated and posted. *I think* that the amount of traffic you so generously
generate has led to a lot of spam posting. In an effort to keep the spam
to a minimum, I am taking the time to moderate comments now. The material included on this site is for informational purposes only.
