Baby Bonanza Spring 2015

We had the pleasure of participating in a brand new family event to hit the Phoenix scene last weekend. It was co-hosted by PB&J Events and the bump.

For those of you that missed it, or if you attended and didn't get to see all the exhibitors, here is a visual recap along with contact information for most of them. I will be filling in the gaps as I have more time to look up websites.

Where in the world has Sweet Pea Births been??

We are a homeschool family, and for the first time, I am homeschooling all four of our children this year! Otter is now old enough and Charger is officially in kindergarten, so most of my day is spent educating the Sweet Pea Kids.
I had three doula clients in the last two months, and we have one more baby due in November.
We are getting ready to host the Bradley Day Family Festival on November 9, 2014.

I am so sorry this blog has been neglected as I focus my priorities on our children and our doula clients. It's also time to spend more energy on making sure Bradley Day is a success.

Since I usually write at night when our Sweet Peas are in bed, that time is being used to rest "just in case" THE call from a doula client comes in. November will be my last month "on call" - we will be back to regular posting as soon as I serve that family through their labor and birth.

Thanks to an early morning for me and three Sweet Peas that are still sleeping, I am so pleased to share this upcoming event with you, Laughter Is The Best Medicine. We are honored to be able to provide a Silent Auction basket in support of the fundraiser being held this Friday, October 10, 2014.

The event is sponsored by the Dignity Health Foundation - East Valley. This organization provides funding and support to the two hospitals that serve most of our SPB families, Chandler Regional Hospital and Mercy Gilbert Medical Center.

Club MomMe Report:

One of the contacts I made at the Club MomMe Spring Family Fest was Stephanie Avila ("SA"), designer and co-founder of Rockabye Mommy. What stopped me in my tracks was this stunning flower wall. It is a Tonia Fischer creation, and it is a design element they have used in some of their nurseries (not the whole wall - usually only a few flowers per room). I’m glad I stopped for a chat – she is a great resource if you are a SoCal mama and can enlist her services. SPB: What motivated you to start Rockabye Mommy?

SA: I have over 10 years experience in Residential and Model Home interior design. So when a friend of mine approached me with the idea of starting a business catering to expectant mothers I knew immediately that this niche would be such a fun experience and would allow me to expand my design expertise in a new way.

SPB: Where do you draw your design inspiration?

SA:I find inspiration in anything unique and beautiful. It can be nature, a piece of furniture or a fashion magazine. The great thing about designing children's rooms is that inspiration can come from anything that brings a smile to your face because the end result should be a happy, magical space for a child.

SPB: Are there common denominators across the different nurseries you design? What are those elements?

SA: Yes and it's funny because I try to start every new project with a clean slate but it's my natural design sensibility to keep an element of sophistication in each room I design. It always ends up working its way back into the design in some way! The fabrics I choose have a more modern aesthetic than the typical novelty prints you usually see in a child's room. That's where the element of sophistication comes in. I rarely use themed juvenile prints or storybook characters. I feel that a whimsical space can be achieved without looking childish by selecting children's motifs in a sophisticated color palette or by using a bright palette in a modern style.

SPB: Do you have a favorite place(s) to shop with new mommies? Which ones and why?

SA: Yes, my go-to locations are The Land of Nod, AFK Furniture and Restoration Hardware Baby & Child. This is my dynamic trio! The Land of Nod offers a modern selection with bold colors and graphic patterns while RH Baby & Child offers a more neutral, soft sophisticated color palette and transitional furnishings. AFK Furniture manufactures beautiful French-inspired furnishings. The level of detail in their custom woodwork and hand painted motifs is absolutely stunning and what puts them in the higher price point category.

SPB: When is the best time for a mommy to start working together with you to create their Sweet Pea's space?

SA: I have started projects at many different times during a mommy's pregnancy but it's ideal to begin during their second trimester because it's a more enjoyable time for mommy. The nausea has usually passed and she is generally in a good state of well-being which makes it easier to get through all of the design decisions. It also leaves us plenty of time to get any items on order, schedule any contractors and have the room completed before baby arrives. My goal is to have the room ready at least three weeks before baby is due so that mommy can relax and be worry free knowing that the nursery is complete.

SPB: What sets your concierge service apart from other designers?

SA: I think what sets any designer apart from the other is their personal design sensibility. I love creating whimsical spaces for children with a sophisticated feel. The other thing that sets us apart is that, not only will you get a well designed room, we also offer personal styling and design packages with entry to the exclusive ACCESS lounge at South Coast Plaza. Our goal is to provide a VIP experience for our clients during this special time in her life. As members of the exclusive South Coast Plaza personal stylist program, Our VIP Mommy Treatment is an experience like no other for the mommy to be! This package includes a two hour design shopping trip throughout the plaza where we'll help you pull your room concept together and suggest our favorite items that work with your scheme. A two hour personal styling session in the ACCESS lounge and a personalized Tiffany & Co. gift. Here is a neat business I would like to introduce you to – baby concierge is an emerging industry that is of particular interest to our students and readers. Stephanie Antoinette is the Founder & M.O.M. (Master of Multitasking) at J’aime la vie by Victoria Antoinette Mommy & Bébé Concierge. She is like a wedding planner, except for all things mom and bébé!

BIO: I am the mother of two beautiful girls and have a baby on the way! My husband Andrew is an incredible father, he is my best friend and number one fan! As a mother I know that preparing for the birth of a child is one of the most important and overwhelming events in life! I worked 60+ hours a week in the corporate world with my first two children, and barely had time to eat, sleep and kiss my kids at night. Let me help you get your time back... enjoy the birthday party for your child instead of worrying how you will pull it all off.

SPB: How did you find your way into the baby concierge service?

JLV: There were a couple of different things that brought this business concept to fruition. One being that Arizona is a very transient state; I actually came from Minnesota myself about 6 years ago. So when I was pregnant with my last baby (3 years ago) I really had no idea where to go for furniture, nannies, photographers, doulas, etc. There was a lot of wasted money and time on my end going through the trial an error of this. The second part was that I was working mom who really just didn't have the time to research all of this, do all the interviews, and plan things like baby showers, birthday parties, etc. I really felt that there should be a local "baby planner" just as their are wedding planners! This is a major and ongoing event in our lives! So I left that corporate position and created a premiere one-stop shop for all mommy and baby needs!

SPB: How does the service work, and what kinds of services do you provide?

JLV: I provide package and A La Carte options so that I can fit various budgets and needs! I help moms with finding the right nannies, doulas, photographers, and more. I also do custom baby registry and birth plans, along with nursery stocking and organization! Then I do the custom party planning, which is anything from baby showers, gender reveals, religious ceremonies, birthday parties (any age), graduation parties and so much more!

SPB: Can you tell me a little about your favorite packages and their special features?

JLV: All of my packages are great and you can customize it to fit any needs. One of the most popular is Vous attendez un bébé!- $150

(So you are having a baby!) This is where we will create a tummy timeline, create a custom baby registry and create your birth plan. So many new and veteran moms are not sure what to expect, what to do when, how this baby will change their lives. I help take the worry out of this process so it doesn't become a source of stress for the family.

SPB: How will a mom know which package is right for their family?

JLV: I offer a free over the phone consult where we generally decide where to start, and we can always add on as we go!

SPB: How did you find the vendors that you work with?

JLV: Years of trial and error at my own expense and time! I also belong to some great organizations where I am surrounded with the Phoenix Valley's top vendors! I have done the research for you!

SPB: What are the benefits of using a baby concierge?

JLV: If you are a new mom, I really guide you on anything from the right products, how to maximize your budget, and the get the right resources you need! For veteran moms like myself this is also a benefit: I work with you on how to transition the new baby with your family, I can get you the right childcare you need, and with each child products are constantly changing... you want to know what is best now!

For all moms my event planning services are a HUGE plus! Planning parties is my true passion; those who are close to me know I am a list maker! Organization, party flow, good food and fresh flowers are key to any successful event! My personal tastes for decor flow anywhere from modern, to shabby chic, to over-the-top! Planning events is so much more fun then decorating your home because you can adjust it to your mood, theme and guests! I think outside the box, and work with any budget to create unique events!

As mothers we often spend our time putting together these events for important milestones in our children's lives, yet we barely have the time to stop and enjoy it with them! I make this possible…that it in itself is priceless.

SPB: When would someone want to hire you as a baby concierge?

JLV: As soon as they begin to feel like they need help! I have 13 years experience as a mother myself, I know what it is like to be pregnant, worried, uncomfortable and stressed! I have been through 2 births and about to experience my third, birth can be the most incredible and terrifying experience all at once! I know what it is like to have minimal sleep and still need to work a full time job! I know how personal it is to find the right people to help you take care of your children, and how much it means to execute the perfect party for your kids! I also have the corporate experience to execute all of this properly. I am the best of both worlds for moms!

SPB: Are there any other thoughts you want to share with our readers?
